Birthing Day

Butter Churn at Night

We drove in late on May 21st and this was our view.  I burst into tears and did a squeal-y happy dance type thing.

Truthfully I’ve never really cared for my birthday.  Even when I was in high school – I sort of felt like the celebration should be my mom’s.  I mean, she did all the work.  While it may be my birthday – truly it should be celebrated as her Birthing Day.

However, after working in the birth field I do have an additional perspective on it now – I have seen so many mamas fall so in love with their babies, that when they go to celebrate that baby’s birthday – the mamas really do want to celebrate that little person who has captured their heart completely.

To honor a Birthday is to also honor a Birthing Day.  It’s only taken me forever to wrap my head around that, but I get it now, and it was just in time because this year I was ready to celebrate.  (and thank you Mom!  Love you!)

And this birthday was going to be a big one for me – I turned 40 on May 23rd.  I’ve been around the earth a few times, contributed to the population, made my share of misguided decisions and learned a whole bunch.  And when I thought about how I would like to celebrate my 40, really celebrate it… I knew I wanted to be at my store.

So that’s where I was.  Building stuff.  Cleaning stuff.  Hanging out with the people I love, in the building that I love.  Celebrating.

I love power tools.

The store looks AMAZING.  Can you believe that a year ago we didn’t know where we would be and now… Now – we are gearing up to open!!

The next few weeks are going to be busy and wonderful.  We are getting ready to be in Illinois for the summer and…  I’m ready to begin transitioning this blog to be less about me, and more about The Butter Churn.  It’s time.

I want to start introduce you to our suppliers, keep you all updated on all the good stuff that is going on.  And pictures, pictures, pictures!

We have a Grand Opening to get ready for – July 18th is just around the corner!
